Privacy Policy

Serendib ("Serendib", "we", "us") connects Sri Lankan families around the world with vetted tutors for Sinhala and Tamil heritage classes and academic tutoring. This policy explains what information we collect when you join our waitlist or use our site, and how we use it. Contact us any time at serendib.learn@gmail.com.

When you join the waitlist, we ask for:

• Your name
• Your general location (city/country)
• What you're looking for (Sinhala, Tamil, and/or academic tutoring)
• Your child's age or year group
• Your email address

This information is submitted by a parent or guardian on their own behalf — we don't knowingly collect information directly from children. We may also collect basic technical data (like browser type and general location inferred from IP address) automatically when you visit the site, for security and analytics purposes.

We use the information you give us to:

• Reach out about your waitlist spot and next steps
• Match you with suitable tutors once onboarding opens
• Understand demand across languages, levels, and regions
• Improve the site and our matching process

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Waitlist submissions are stored in a private, access-controlled Google Sheet used only by the Serendib team. We use standard safeguards to protect it, but no method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

We don't share your personal information with third parties except: service providers who help us run the site (for example, Google Workspace for waitlist storage), or where required by law. If we later match you with a specific tutor, we'll share only what's needed to make that introduction — with your knowledge.

Wherever you're based — including under UK and EU GDPR — you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, or to stop contacting you, at any time. Just email serendib.learn@gmail.com and we'll action it promptly.

The site does not currently use tracking or advertising cookies. If we add analytics in the future, we'll update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

As Serendib grows past the waitlist stage — for example, once tutors, bookings, and payments are live — we'll update this policy to reflect that, and post the new version here.
